We are very sorry to have to report the recent death of our friend and colleague Snowy (Ferdinand) White.

Snowy started work in textiles at Joseph Lumb and Sons, Worsted Spinners in Huddersfield. For many years he was store-keeper, looking after all the spares for Lumb's machines.

He met his partner Jean, at the Mill, and they have been together for many years.

When Joseph Lumb's moved from Huddersfield to Halifax, Snowy joined ATC Dyers to work in the yarn dyehouse. In 1985 he was presented with a gold watch for 25 years service.

He came with us to Bradford in 1987 and took over running the RF Drier on one of the shifts. He did this so well that we all took it for granted that it was quite straight-forward. It soon became apparent, when we all had to pitch in and help that it was a complicated task. He just made it look easy.

No-one can remember if he had any days off work, but a few weeks ago he was missing on a Monday morning. This was so unusual, but it was eventually diagnosed to be due to kidney failure. He died soon after in hospital.

All his colleagues at work were very sorry to hear this news. Everyone thought the world of Snowy. We send our condolences and best wishes to Jean.
